Grace Yoo has spent over 30 years fighting for local communities, working families, and those whose voices have been ignored. Grace doesn’t want to be just another elected official, she is ready to create positive change for residents of District 10.
Grace is the visionary candidate for L.A. City Council who will hold City leaders accountable, keep people safe, tackle homelessness, make L.A. more affordable, and drive positive change in Los Angeles.
Grace will bring her extensive public policy experience to City Hall. An expert on issues related to seniors, Grace has served as a Director for St. Barnabas Senior Services and as Steering Committee Chair for the Los Angeles Aging Advocacy Coalition. With the hope of tackling L.A.’s transportation problems, Grace accepted an appointment to serve as a Los Angeles City Commissioner and Vice-President of Los Angeles’ Department of Transportation.
Grace credits her parents, a former warehouse worker and former L.A. City employee, with inspiring her activism at a young age. Grace attended LAUSD schools, graduated with honors from U.C. Riverside and Seton Hall University School of Law. Along the way she learned to work hard, play by the rules, and reach for life’s possibilities.
Following Law School, Grace worked as an attorney representing abused and neglected children at L.A. County’s Children’s Law Center. Soon after, Grace served as Executive Director of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, which she helped grow into an influential, national, multi-million dollar organization. Always up for a new challenge, Grace spent the next ten years serving as the Executive Director of the Korean American Coalition with a goal of empowering and serving the needs of the Korean American community.
Grace’s free time has always been filled by activism. She volunteers and serves on numerous boards, committees and taskforces for organizations such as the Sierra Club, the L.A. County Democratic Party, and United Neighborhoods for L.A. Seeing a need to bring people together to find common sense solutions, she co-founded the Asian Jewish Initiative and the Environmental Justice Collaborative.
